Marci Arnold was born and raised in Plainview, NY. She graduated with a B.S. from Cornell University and earned her Masters degree in Education at the University of Houston. Marci is married to Mark Arnold and they have 3 children, Alyssa (17), Jacob (15) and Braden (12.) They also have 2 dogs and a very mischievous cat.
Marci currently spends much of her time volunteering with several organizations around Houston including The Emery/Weiner School, Hadassah, Aishel House, and at the Harris County Psych Center, where she has volunteered since 2009 with her dog, Buddy, visiting the children and teens there. She also works part-time for a women’s clothing company, KOKOON, where she is the Sales Representative for both Houston and Austin.
When she’s not volunteering or driving kids to and from school or activities, Marci can be found cooking up healthy and (hopefully) tasty meals for the family. She also enjoys exercising, traveling with her family, mah jong, and getting together with friends! She looks forward to being an integral member of the board of Congregation Shma Koleinu and helping it to become a model synagogue for Reform Judaism.
Jonathan Axelrad was born in Sacramento, California. He spent his early childhood in San Francisco and moved to Houston at the age of 12. He holds degrees in Sociology from the University of California at San Diego (1993) and law from the University of Houston Law Center (1996). After graduating from law school, he opened The Axelrad Law Firm.
Jonathan is married to Julie and has two children, Ethan and Ari. Jonathan represents both individuals and businesses in a variety of complex commercial and personal injury matters arising out of corporate misconduct.
Brad was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended the University of Texas and Harvard Law School. Brad has been married to Anna Milliken Eastman since 1995. Brad and Anna have three children: Ely -18, Abigail – 14; and Daniel – 12. Brad enjoys running, reading history, playing board games with his kids and traveling. Brad is currently the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel of Cameron International Corporation.
Dr. Marcy Laviage is a licensed clinical psychologist earning her doctorate degree at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin, she moved to Storrs specifically to study under her mentor on social policy and social justice issues. She returned to Houston to complete her internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Before opening her private practice in 2005, she was employed at Texas Children’s Hospital offering individual, group, and family therapy services for children and adolescents. She created a Pediatric Health Psychology Program within her department to serve the mental health needs of children and adolescents at TCH with acute and chronic medical issues and co-chaired this program until her departure. Even out in the private sector, Marcy continues to work closely with all medical practitioners, especially her colleagues at Baylor and Texas Children’s Hospital where she maintains medical staff privileges.
Marcy has been an invited local, state, national and international speaker on a variety of mental health issues. She currently serves as President of the Texas Psychological Association and is an active member of the Houston Psychological Association and Fort Bend Psychological Association. In addition, Marcy is a member of the Disaster Mental Health Team for the American Red Cross and has volunteered after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and other natural disasters such as flooding and apartment fires around the Houston area. Marcy and her husband, Jason, have been married for 17 years and have two sons, Morgan, age 12, and Zac, age 8.
Lauren Mattiuzzi was born and raised in Oakland, California. She graduated from the California Maritime Academy with a B.S. and a United States Coast Guard Third Mate’s License. She sailed on United States Merchant vessels prior to attending law school at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. Lauren is a licensed attorney in both California and Texas.
Lauren is currently the Assistant Director of Risk Management at Texas Children’s Hospital. She is proud to contribute to such an outstanding institution. She is also an active volunteer, frequently working at functions at her children’s schools.
Lauren is married to George Mattiuzzi, and they have two children. Benjamin is a junior at Carnegie Vanguard High School, and Noah is a freshman at HSPVA. Lauren’s favorite activity is spending time with her family. She also enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with friends. She is looking forward to working on the CSK Leadership Team and helping to form a vibrant new Jewish Community.
Karen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and manages the Employee Assistance Program for Union Pacific Railroad. She has been a docent for 5 years at the Holocaust Musuem of Houston and is on the Docent Committee at the Museum. Karen is married to Chuck Thrall and joins him on his motorcycle adventures when she is not busy being Bubbe with her two grandchildren or spending time with her two daughters .
Rebecca is a native Houstonian, but spent her childhood in Laredo, Texas and is bilingual (Spanish). She has been a legal administrative assistant at Strasburger & Price for 19 years. She loves cooking, gardening, reading and traveling.
Rebecca "discovered" CSK through a Facebook post about the High Holidays last year. She decided to give it a try and all she can say is it was truly "love at first sight." Everyone at CSK has been so sincerely welcoming toward her and she feels like she's found a place where she's am comfortable that fulfills her spiritual needs.
